Rights and freedoms of foreigners and stateless persons in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan

Foreigners and stateless persons can enjoy all rights and freedoms equally with the nationals of theRepublicofAzerbaijanand have to fulfill all duties, if the other rules are not defined by the Constitution and the laws of theRepublicofAzerbaijanand by the international treaties of theRepublicofAzerbaijan.

The implementation of rights and freedoms of foreigners and stateless persons must not be contrary to the national interests of theRepublicofAzerbaijan.

Foreigners and stateless persons must observe the requirements of the Constitution, Laws and other legislation acts of theRepublicofAzerbaijanand respect the traditions of the nation ofAzerbaijan.

According to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons”, in case the foreign country restricts the implementation of rights and freedoms of nationals of the Republic of Azerbaijan in its territory, the same restrictions can be defined to the nationals of that country in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the legislation of Azerbaijan Republic.

Foreigners and stateless persons are equal before the law and court in theRepublicofAzerbaijanwithout distinction of their social and property position, race and national origin, sex, language, attitude to religion, type and character of activity, and other cases.

The rights and freedoms of foreigners and stateless persons in theRepublicofAzerbaijancan only be restricted in accordance with the norms of international law and laws of theRepublicofAzerbaijan.

Political asylum 
Respectively to the Constitution and legislation of theRepublic ofAzerbaijan, theRepublic ofAzerbaijan provides political asylum to foreigners and stateless persons.

Refugee Status
The status of refugee can be provided to the foreigners and stateless persons according to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the status of refugees and internally displaced persons (persons displaced within the country)” and the international treaties supported by theRepublic ofAzerbaijan.

Getting/acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Foreigners and stateless persons can obtain the citizenship of theRepublic ofAzerbaijan, in accordance with the Constitution and the Law of theRepublic ofAzerbaijan “On citizenship of theRepublic ofAzerbaijan”.
