Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar Mr. Rashad Ismayilov held a meeting in Qatar Investment Authority

On September 5, 2018 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the State of Qatar Mr. Rashad Ismayilov met with Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Ali Al-Thani, Chief of Business Development Department of the Qatari Investment Authority (QİA), the sovereign fund of Qatar.

The purpose of the meeting was to promote investment cooperation, one of the foundations of economic relations between the two countries, and exchange views to attract Qatari investment to Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Rashad Ismayilov spoke about Azerbaijan's investment climate and the documents signed between the two countries on the elimination of double taxation and the promotion and mutual protection of investments existing between the two countries, the wealth of domestic legislation regarding the protection of investments  in Azerbaijan. Ambassador noted that the existing high-level political relations have created a reliable basis for foreign investments.

Sheikh Abdulaziz noted that he visited Azerbaijan several times, held meetings in several state and private organizations and noted that Azerbaijan was included in the Qatar's foreign investment policy. He said QIA is currently cooperating with the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is interested in studying investment projects implemented in our country.

For the information, QIA is one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, and its assets are estimated at $ 400 billion. At the present, the organization has investments in many European countries, including the UK (about $ 40 billion), Germany and France (about $ 10 billion each) and other countries. QIA has shares in Volkswagen Group, Porsche, Hochtieft (17% share), Lagardère (12%) Total (4%), EADS (6%), Technip, Air Liquide , Vinci SA (5%), GDF, Suez, Veolia (5%), VivendiRoyal, Monceau, France Telecom and others. The company is interested in direct investments as well as portfolio investments.
